Riva: Lippi was abandoned

Italy legend Gigi Riva reveals that the Federation “abandoned”
Marcello Lippi and the squad before the triumph in Germany.
“We felt very alone out there, apart from the few occasions when
someone from the Federation came to give us a pat on the back,”
explained the team manager of the World Cup winning side.
Riva說：「我們在德國感覺非常孤單，
只有少數場合足協的人會來拍拍我們的背表示參與。」
Italy set out on this adventure in the middle of the Calciopoli scandal
with calls for Lippi to be fired and Juventus star Fabio Cannavaro
stripped of his captain's armband.
義大利隊在醜聞中出發，曾有人要求炒掉 Lippi，扯下 Cannavaro的隊長臂章。
“The players reacted well to the problems and I believe we created
the foundations for this success in the Coverciano training camp.
The FIGC doesn't exist. Now they are the ones who
have to make some decisions, sitting there like ghosts
under a white sheet. I thought of the two tormented months
in which every day a missile was aimed at our ship.
It's difficult to forget all that and Lippi suffered badly.”
Riva說：「球員們對這些問題作出良好反應，
我相信我們在義大利的國家隊集訓地就創造了這次成功的基礎，
義大利足協並不存在，現在他們又成為決策者，就像是床單下的鬼魂，
我認為這受盡折磨的兩個月就像是每天都有飛彈瞄準著我們的船，

Now the tactician has taken a few days to consider his future,
hinting that he would like to move on after winning the World Cup
at his first attempt in international football.
現在 Lippi將在近幾天考慮自己的未來，暗示將在贏得世界盃後離開義大利國家隊。
“The Cup is essentially a piece of metal, but it is like medicine
that all Italians have taken,” continued Mexico 1970 hero Riva.
“We hope this'll help everyone find their balance again.
I told Lippi he has built a wonderful house and
it's only right to enjoy it.”
對此 Riva說：「獎盃實際上不過就是塊金屬，不過它就像每個義大利人都會吃的藥，
我們希望大家都能藉此重新找回平衡點，我告訴 Lippi，
他建造了一座美麗家園，惟有享受它才是正確的事。」
