Iaquinta respects Lippi choice

Vincenzo Iaquinta believes that Marcello Lippi has left
the Italy bench at the right time: straight after lifting
the World Cup trophy.
“Of course I'm disappointed, but I think he considered
his choice carefully,”said the Udinese forward.
“He has won the World Cup and can leave with
this great success in the history books.”
Iaquinta談義大利國家隊主教練 Lippi的辭職：
「我當然很失望，不過我認為他很謹慎地做出了決定，
他已經贏得了世界盃冠軍，而且可以帶著這在歷史上留名的偉大成就離去。」
The speculation over his future had raged on throughout the tournament,
but Lippi only made his decision to quit
the Nazionale official this morning.
“We hadn't heard anything about this within the squad in Germany,
as our only thought was on playing football and
trying to achieve our objective. I have to thank the Coach,
as he called me up even during my difficult times.
I hope I managed to pay him back for that faith in me.”
關於 Lippi未來的去處，Iaquinta說：「我們隊裡在德國時沒聽到任何傳聞，
而且我們都只想著踢球跟達成自己訂下的目標，我必須要感謝教練，
就算是在我遭遇困難之時仍然會用上我，我希望能有機會回報他對我的信任。」
Iaquinta was an unpopular choice for the World Cup squad,
as many thought Cristiano Lucarelli or Francesco Tavano
were on better form going into the competition,
but he featured regularly as a substitute and
scored in the 2-0 win over Ghana.
Iaquinta是義大利在世界盃陣容中最不得人心的選擇，
當時 Lucarelli與 Tavano的狀態都比他更適合去參加決賽圈，

The reasons behind Lippi's decision to step down are rumoured
to be wrapped up in the Calciopoli scandal that nearly saw him fired
before the adventure in Germany even began.
Lippi決定辭職的原因被認為跟義大利電話門醜聞有關，
初爆發時讓 Lippi幾乎在前往德國之前就被炒了魷魚。
“When things were said to us in Coverciano, we always tried to
let them slide off our backs. At the end, though, those insults gave us
an extra push to prove everyone wrong,” explained Iaquinta.
對此 Iaquinta說：「當我們在維爾奇亞諾被告知那些事情時，
我們都試著當作耳邊風，不過那些侮辱最終還是成為了我們額外的動力。」
The Euro 2008 qualifiers are around the corner and the favourite to
replace Lippi on the Azzurri bench would appear to be Roberto Donadoni.
目前看來最有可能接任的主教練人選是 Donadoni。
“The Federation makes these decisions, not the players.
Donadoni did well at Livorno and as a player was a hero
for Milan and Italy. If he is the one picked,
then he'll be given a warm welcome.
I am sure he'll prove that he is a world class Coach.”
Iaquinta說：「足協才有決定權，球員沒有，
不過 Donadoni在 Livorno時帶得不錯，身為球員時也是 Milan跟義大利隊的英雄，
如果他是繼任者，他將會得到溫馨的歡迎，我確信他能證明自己是世界級的教練。」

Fabio Cannavaro has sent a personal message of thanks
to departing Italy boss Marcello Lippi with an open letter.
“On behalf of the entire squad, I want to give my heartfelt thanks to
Marcello Lippi,” wrote the Azzurri captain on his official website.
Cannavaro在個人官網上對 Lippi致敬：「代表全隊，我衷心感謝 Lippi。」
“Our Coach bows out as a winner and now all we can do is thank Lippi,
both as a tactician and a man, for the excellent work done and
how he led the side in such difficult moments.”
「我們教練以勝利者的姿態退場，現在我們惟一能做就是感謝他，
感謝身為教練與個人的他，敢感謝他出色地完成工作，
感謝他在艱難時刻帶領著球隊的方式。」
The former Juventus boss officially stepped down
as Italy Coach this morning, having lifted the World Cup
and put together a remarkable 25-match unbeaten run during
his two-year tenure.
Lippi今晨正式請辭，留下世界盃冠軍與卓越的２５場不敗紀錄。
The last side to defeat them was Slovenia in a 1-0 World Cup qualifier
on October 9, 2004. It was followed by 16 wins (including extra time
and penalties) and nine draws.
上次義大利輸球是在2004年十月九日世界盃會外賽上０－１輸給斯洛維尼亞，
此後就是十六場勝利與九場平手。
“He gave us his strength and relaxed state of mind,”
continued Cannavaro. “The result is that we are now World Champions.
Good luck, Mister!”
Cannavaro說：「他帶給我們力量與心靈上的放鬆，
結果就是我們現在成為了世界冠軍！」
Gigi Riva, who accompanied the squad for the Federation as Team Manager,
also praised the departing tactician.

“He's one of the greats and overcame so many problems,
from those who wanted him out of the Nazionale to the members
of the media who demanded the players pull out of this World Cup
before it began,” noted Riva.

“On a human level, he was extraordinary in the Coverciano training camp,
as he was able to put all these issues aside,

there was real mutual affection between them.
By continuing and now stepping down, Lippi made a great sacrifice.”
「從人類的層面來看，他在維爾奇亞諾時非常傑出，
