Buffon wasn't a believer

Azzurri No 1 Gigi Buffon has revealed that he didn't expect Italy
to reach the World Cup Final this summer.
Although the custodian had few doubts about the strength of the side,
he concedes that his pessimistic nature led him to believe
that he feared another early exit.
“Back on May 22, I didn't really believe that we would have
reached the Final,” the Juventus ace stated after
the disappointments of 2002 and 2004.
Buffon說：「回到五月二十二日，我真的不相信我們能打到決賽。」
“I think that every footballer, no matter how convinced he is
of his own ability or the strength of the team, doubts at the start
that the team's capability will be enough to reach the Final.
「我認為每個足球員，不管他如何相信自己的能力與球隊的強大，
在最一開始都會懷疑球隊是否有足以打進決賽的實力。」
“You always think something negative is going to happen first,
even if you can say that these things have happened to us in the past.”
「你總會認為有些負面的事會在一開始就發生，

Fortune deserted the Azzurri back in 1998 too when Buffon was part of
the squad who lost on penalties to France, Sunday's opponents,
in the quarter-finals.
“There is definitely less worry within the camp than there was in 1998,”
added the former Parma youngster.
談1998年對法國點球戰失利止步八強，Buffon說：
「現在隊上的擔憂肯定少於1998年那個時候。」
“At that time we had to play them in their own back yard,
they were eight years younger and just reaching their peak.
They certainly caused us more fear back then.”

The Berlin showdown is set to be a tight and evenly balanced affair,
but Buffon is gunning for glory.
“We won't disappoint, we'll play our own game until the very end,”
he assured.
「我們不會挫敗，我們會打出自己的風格直到比賽結束。」
“We have certainly done some good things in this tournament.
Therefore we have a clear conviction which shouldn't turn into
presumption or arrogance.”
「我們肯定在這次大賽中打出了一些出色成績，
所以我們有明確的信念，而且自大傲慢。」
