Inzaghi stars in Italy test Wednesday 3 September, 2003

Pippo Inzaghi netted a hat-trick in the 6-1 friendly test against the
Under-19 squad this afternoon, but Christian Vieri is still sidelined.
Milan hero Inzaghi, who was dropped from recent international outings,
scored three goals during the first half of today’s training game.
Lazio striker Bernardo Corradi, who is the understudy to Vieri in
Giovanni Trapattoni’s system, also hit the back of the net.
Alessandro Del Piero and a penalty from Lazio winger Massimo Oddo
sealed the 6-1 scoreline against the European Championship-winning
Under-19 side.
Vieri took part in a light training session this morning, but is
still struggling to recover after picking up a knock during Inter’s
2-0 win over Modena.
Trap fielded the line-up we could see against Wales and Serbia &
Montenegro for the upcoming Euro 2004 qualifiers.
The absence of the injured Francesco Totti could force the successful
4-2-3-1 system to undergo changes, returning to a more traditional
creative midfielder behind the front two.
In this case, it seems that Juventus captain Del Piero will be the
Totti replacement in the hole behind Inzaghi and Corradi.
There are injury worries, as Chievo’s Simone Perrotta is almost
certainly out of action with a thigh problem, so Alessio Tacchinardi
steps into central midfield.
There was some good news for Trapattoni, as Serbia have lost three
stars familiar to Serie A followers.
Lazio’s Dejan Stankovic and Sinisa Mihajlovic are out of next
Wednesday’s qualifier in Belgrade, while former Juventus striker
Darko Kovacevic is sidelined with a calf strain.
