The Azzurrini tumbled out of the competition at the group stage after picking up just four points from three games, with last night's defeat proving crucial. “We didn't play that well in the first half, where we were a little long,” said the Coach who led the side to glory two years ago. “We were more organised in the second period where we pressed them throughout. This defeat is harsh, but football is like that.” The Italians only needed a point to reach the semi-finals, but there were no late goals which characterised their first two group games versus Denmark and Ukraine. “We didn't manage to get a late goal this time,” added the Juventus legend. “We conceded a stupid goal. “We did try to score and had a few good opportunities, but we weren't able to do it. We made a mistake and we paid for it.” Holland, who finished level on points with Italy, now progress to the last four even if the 1982 World Cup winner was hardly impressed. “They did nothing to try to score, even if they kept the ball well and we danced a little,” concluded the boss. However, some of Gentile's troops conceded that their defensive approach to the game was their downfall. “We went into the match too defensively where we looked to simply not concede,” said Roma stopper Cesare Bovo. “A few opportunities to score were created and we could have taken the lead even without playing that well. “We wanted to play with attention,” he added. “Instead of praising Holland for qualification, we can say that we threw it away.” Raffaele Palladino also took a little swipe at Gentile's tactics by insisting he and his attacking teammates were left stranded. “We gave the initiative to Holland,” stated the Livorno striker. “We did win the ball back but we were that deep that it was hard to attack. “And when we did create a few chances we failed to capitalise on them. We played badly, not only in attack, but all of the side. Holland caused us difficulties.” Former Under-21 boss Marco Tardelli, an ex-teammate of Gentile, was also critical of what he witnessed. “The Azzurrini lacked the conviction needed for victory,” he said. “We had an attacking team which played defensively. “It really went badly where the side struggled in midfield.” Italy had not failed to reach the semi-final stage of the competition since 1998. The Azzurrini had also won five out of the last seven editions. -- 看到標題我就不想翻了,內容大體上來說就是保守致死, 除了主教練以外,部分球員跟前任主教練都不太滿意本場只打算求和的安排, 總之,就是出局了。 -- 無知也要有個限度。 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 124.8.128.196
