Pitcher Blake Hawksworth, sidetracked by a couple of serious injuries,
leads a flock of once and future prospects working their way back to
health and attention in the Cardinals system:
Nick Stavinoha, OF
Had a stress fracture that was supposed to keep him out for several weeks
but returned Wednesday night and popped a three-run homer.
It was his third of the season for Class AA Springfield.
A.J. Van Slyke, OF
Needed surgery to repair his rotator cuff, and that was just part of the
shoulder injury that kept him from playing in the All-Star Game he was
selected to play in based on his short-season rookie ball.
He's now hitting .242 with 14 RBIs for Class A Quad Cities.
