As a long line of former Patriots assistant coaches will attest, success
breeds head coaching opportunities.

Considering that he is reportedly No. 2 on the New York Knicks’ wish list
behind Mark Jackson, Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau - architect of the
stingiest defensive rotation in the NBA - has hit that heady zone.

順位時，也投入了這場混戰當中。

The only caveat is that teams wait until the Celtics’ playoff run finally
ends. Despite a published New York report that the Knicks had already called
and asked for permission to interview Thibodeau, Celtics director of
basketball operations Danny Ainge said yesterday Knicks general manager
Donnie Walsh has not called.
目前唯一的阻礙是：一切得等到超賽打完季後賽才能開始行動。儘管紐約有報導指稱尼克
隊已經提出跟Thibodeau會面的請求，然而超賽老闆Ainge昨天說Walsh還沒跟他聯絡。

“I haven’t heard anything,” Ainge said. “There’s a lot of speculation
going on right now. But I anticipate that Tom will be on the coaching
candidate list going around the league this summer.”

The players understand how this works, too.

Most, like point guard Rajon Rondo, understand what makes Thibodeau such a
hot coaching commodity, but also hope that his current environment proves too
appealing to leave.

“He could definitely be a head coach in this league,” Rondo said last night

coach that I’ve ever seen. I asked him a question about how he works one
time, and he said that it takes him four hours to break down one film.”

Even for Rondo, considered by coach Doc Rivers as the most committed film
watcher on the team, four hours on one game tape borders on the fanatical.

It’s not that Thibodeau is the only coach who teaches the Celtics’ brand of
defense, with rotations that have shut down pick-and-rolls and scorers across
the league. And yes, he also has the best material in the league to mold.
並不是說Thibodeau是教出超賽超強防守的唯一教練，更何況，他所擁有的是聯盟裡最有
可塑性的球員。

“Everyone uses the same things,” forward Brian Scalabrine said. “But not
everyone teaches the same way. (Thibodeau) is a good teacher. The thing about
him is that he can teach everyone to do this. As long as Tom gets a team
where he can implement what he does, he’ll be like a lot of guys who could
be great head coaches. But hell yeah, that man can coach. With the way we run
our system, he’s dialed in on the defensive end.”
「每個教練用的教材都差不多，」前鋒Scal這麼說：「但不是每個人的教法都一樣，Tom

Rondo agreed.

“It seems like he knows everything,” Rondo said. “He knows the game. He
knows the way every offense is run in the NBA. He teaches differently from a
lot of people, but he also teaches a lot better. He’s just more thorough
with what he does.”

Minutes dwindle

Tony Allen, singled out by Rivers as someone who had to play “better” - the
insinuation being that playoff minutes were in the balance - played only two
minutes last night, after logging a mere nine in Game 1. Eddie House played
three in Game 2 after only five on Sunday.
Rivers, who still played 10 players for 10 or more minutes, said Allen and
House have to remain patient.

Rondo’s film habits are impeccable. According to Rivers, the only player on
the roster who may rival Rondo in front of a screen is Kevin Garnett.

“Rondo and Kevin are the top two,” Rivers said. “Some guys watch what we
call force film. But Armond (Hill, a Rivers assistant) gives Rajon a lot. He’
s unusual for everyone in the league. I was very impressed by his preparation
during our first practice for the playoffs.”

Though a ceremony was held at the Celtics playoff facility in Waltham on
Tuesday for Garnett, who became the first Celtic to win the NBA’s Defensive
Player of the Year Award, the team made sure to treat the fans last night.

到DPOY獎的球員，球隊昨天仍保證會為球迷舉辦一場。

With Garnett leading the way to midcourt, where he held the trophy up to a
standing ovation, the entire team gathered around the player who has most
made its new defensive reputation possible.
由KG帶頭進場，並在場上舉起獎盃接受大家的熱烈鼓掌。所有的隊員都圍著KG，是他讓球
隊新的防守風格成為可能。
