A look reveals Celtics’ future

This is what’s so dazzling, and a little scary, about watching Kevin Garnett:
Tune in at any point during a Celtics game and it is impossible to use his
facial expression as a kind of human scoreboard that lets you know who is
winning, who is losing, and how much time remains before the final buzzer.

當你看著KG時，是如此耀眼的，還有一點點嚇人：在任何 Celtics比賽中，他的臉部

It is a truly amazing face this man has; it is a painting, really, frozen in
time, and it is all the proof we need to see that he was deadly serious last
summer when he showed up in the Red Sox clubhouse (same day as Eric Gagne, if
you can believe that) and told Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Curt Schilling and
the rest of the boys that he, too, would like an opportunity to step into the
winner’s circle.

hard reality that this postseason is in its infancy. That, incredibly, it could
be two months before the NBA crowns a new champion.

Weird, isn’t it? Celtics fans have waited all these years for a real chance
to make some noise in the postseason, yet the only noise we’ve heard in this

unfortunate cackling of Mike Bibby, the famous Atlanta sports psychologist/
marketing guru who, after exhaustive study, has determined that Celtics fans
are nothing more than a collection of bandwagon-hopping yahoos who grabbed the
coattails of Boston’s newly assembled Big Three.

感覺有點詭異，不是嗎？ Celtics球迷等了這麼多年，要在季後賽製造一點噪音，結
果在第一輪我們唯一聽到的噪音，是老鷹隊Mike Bibby不幸的閒談，這個亞特蘭大有
名的運動心理學者/行銷大師，經過好一番研究，終於宣告Celtics球迷只是一堆戰績
球迷，搶著要抓住波士頓新三巨頭組合的衣角。

We’ve all had a lot of fun with that one, this business of someone who plays
in Atlanta - Atlanta!!! - proclaiming there’s a city out there in the American
sportscape whose fans are bandwagon jumpers.

我們對這都覺得好笑，某個在亞特蘭大打球的傢伙 -亞特蘭大耶！宣稱美國有個城市
的球迷是戰績球迷。

But if we didn’t have Bibby, what would we talk about? The Celtics have very
slowly, methodically run away from the Hawks in Games 1 and 2, winning so
convincingly that general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers have each
taken turns going on WEEI this week to wring their hands and say they are not
satisfied, that mistakes have been made, that too many outside shots are being
taken, blah, blah, blah.

但是如果我們沒有Bibby，我們要說些什麼呢？Celtics緩慢地、有系統地在前兩戰擺
脫了老鷹隊，勝利是如此令人信服，以致於 Danny Ainge和Doc Rivers輪流在電台上
扭動雙手，說他們還不滿足，說犯了太多錯誤，說投了太多外線跳投，點點點。

Why are they saying these things? Because like the rest of us, Danny and the
Doctor understand just how much of a mismatch this series is. Even the
Celtics’ spunky little mascot, Lucky, spent more time in the paint in Games 1
and 2 than anyone wearing a Hawks uniform.

any scouting report, more than any of the experts’ preseason prognostications,
it tells us that the parquet will still be in use come June.
