Waiting game on Tom Thibodeau

Knicks are interested in interviewing Tom Thibodeau, but may have to wait
until after playoffs.
尼克隊有興趣要面試Tom Thibodeau，但是也許要等到季後賽結束以後。
If Donnie Walsh wants to interview Boston Celtics associate head coach Tom
Thibodeau for the Knicks' coaching position, he might have to wait until after
the NBA Finals.
如果Donnie Walsh想要面試波士頓Celtics的助理教練Tom Thibodeau來當尼克隊教練，
他或許要等到NBA決賽之後了。
While Mark Jackson remains the favorite to succeed Isiah Thomas, Walsh
definitely has interest in Thibodeau, an 18-year veteran and former top aide
to Jeff Van Gundy in New York and Houston. According to a person close to the
Knicks' president, Thibodeau is ranked No.1 among NBA assistant coaches by
Walsh.

Although it's not great timing, Doc Rivers has told associates that he would
be open to allowing Thibodeau to interview during a day off in the Celtics'
playoff run.

"If push comes to shove, Doc would allow Tom to meet with the Knicks during

While Rivers is OK with an interview, there has been no indication, one way or
another, from Celtics owners that they will allow Thibodeau to interview for
any head coaching job until after Boston's playoff run is over. Speculation is
that they would prefer to wait.

Boston, the top seed in the East, is trying to reach its first Finals in 20

any other team, will present a distraction. That could mean that Walsh may have
to wait until mid-June to interview Thibodeau, if Jackson isn't in place by
then. Other teams that could have openings for a head coach and an interest in
the New Britian, Conn., product include Atlanta and Toronto.

Walsh's plan is to have his head coach in place long before the June 26 draft.
Pending the outcome of the May 20 lottery, the Knicks are slotted for one of
the top eight picks. Whether it's Jackson or someone else, Walsh's intent is
to have his coach lead the pre-draft workouts in what is shaping up as one of
the most critical drafts for the Knicks in many years.

Walsh interviewed Jackson last week. He has not contacted Boston to ask for
permission to interview Thibodeau, whose work at the defensive end has been a
key factor in the Celtics' emergence as one of the league's elite teams.
Thibodeau has had the perfect player to carry out his strategies in Kevin
Garnett, who last week was named Defensive Player of the Year for the first
time. Garnett is also in the running for his second MVP honor.

in that phase of the game during Thomas' reign as team president - and even
more so as coach. Among the priorities for the new coach, Walsh wants to see
immediate improvement on defense, which was one of the reasons he contacted
Scott Skiles about interviewing for the job. But Skiles turned down Walsh and
shortly thereafter signed a four-year, $18 million deal to coach the Milwaukee
Bucks.
在Van Gundy底下年年都是防守強隊，但是在Thomas 擔任球隊總裁的時期，這方面簡直

Walsh has done extensive homework on Thibodeau, including having a lengthy
talk last week with Van Gundy about his former right-hand man.
