Leon Powe plays a big role

Kendrick Perkins showed up wearing a mask. Leon Powe might have arrived

So it was for the men in the middle last night at the Garden, where the Celtics
walloped the Atlanta Hawks by a 110-85 score in Game 5 of their Eastern
Conference playoff series. Powe, the backup, played more minutes than Perkins,
the starter, though it was the nature of Powe’s performance that was of far
greater importance.

So the Celtics look like they are awake again, at least for now, entering Game
6 in Atlanta tomorrow night. A road team still has not won a game in this
series. The Celtics last night looked much like the club they were in Games 1
and 2, when blowout victories had many believing this series would be over by
now.

For Powe, in particular, Game 6 will be quite the challenge. He played a
combined 38 minutes in Games 1 and 2 of this series before being a complete
nonfactor in Game 3, when he logged a mere 6:04. The message was clear. Coach
Doc Rivers reaffirmed after the loss that the most active Celtics big men would
get the minutes the rest of the way, though Powe did not need to hear the
lecture.

to play free.’ ”

Know what else Powe said? He admitted that the trip to Atlanta was a learning
experience for him. He admitted that the environment might have overwhelmed
him. He had never played a road playoff game, after all, and suddenly the man
who has made a career through his relentless play found himself on his heels,
tentative, timid.

top of his head as it were a pair of sunglasses, forgetting they were there
at all.

Over the next 14 minutes, what Powe gave the Celtics was nothing short of a
major boost. He scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds. In the first
half, Powe actually had more offensive rebounds (five) than the entire Hawks
roster (four). Powe also took a pair of charges, meaning he forced more
turnovers (two) than the Celtics committed (one) in the first 24 minutes.

Of course, these Celtics are built around the threesome of Kevin Garnett, Paul
Pierce and Ray Allen, each of whom took turns holding the Celtics by the hand
last night. Pierce dominated the first quarter, Allen the third. Garnett made
perhaps the biggest basket of the night, a spin out of the low post midway
through the third quarter that stymied an Atlanta run and turned a six-point
lead into an eight-point advantage. On the very next possession, Garnett
whipped out a pass to Allen for a wide-open 3-pointer that extended the lead
to 11. Atlanta never got closer.

當然囉， Celtics還是建築在三巨頭的主旋律之上，他們三個昨晚輪流跳出來保住勝果
。Pierce主宰了第一節， Allen是第三節，KG投進了也許是全場最重要的一球，一個在

When all was said and done, Powe had 10 points, seven rebounds and a blocked
shot in a game the Celtics absolutely, positively had to win. The effort seemed
relatively minor, though the other members of the Celtics, including Perkins,
would hardly minimize Powe’s contributions.

當比賽結束時，在這場 Celtics絕對絕對要贏的比賽，Powe得了10分7籃板1火鍋。他的
