It's been masked by the Celtics' winning ways, but captain Paul Pierce has been
in an offensive slump this month.

Before erupting for a game-high 29 points in Boston's 122-104 triumph over the
Timberwolves Sunday, Pierce had scored more than 20 points just once in eight
games this month (21 vs. Oklahoma City). His struggled climaxed in Friday's
loss to the 76ers, where Pierce finished 4-of-12 shooting for nine points, and
missed a potential winning jumper in the final seconds.

Knowing a good portion of a shooter's success is mental, Celtics coach Doc
Rivers stressed to Pierce during Saturday's practice to simply go back to the
basics. Pierce responded by tying a team record by hitting all six 3-pointers
he attempted in Sunday's lopsided triumph over the lowly Timberwolves.

“We talked [Saturday] and I told him he needs to get back to just playing on
his instincts," said Rivers. "I thought he was trying to get everybody
involved, which you want him to do, too, but I think our three really
instinctive players are Kevin [Garnett], [Rajon] Rondo and Paul. I think all
three of them, they have the curse of a high basketball IQ, and at times I
think they start wanting to think the game -- and they try to get this guy off,
instead of just playing, when their instincts will take over. And their IQ will
play into it. I think that Rondo and Paul do that at times -- Kevin every once
in a while. But those two, you always have to remind them, 'Just be an
instinctive player. You have great instincts.' Some of the other guys, you’ve
got to do it by numbers. But those three guys, you just want them to play. And
their instincts do everything for them. And I thought Paul did that [Sunday]."

河流表示：「禮拜六的時候我和PP談過，我告訴他『你只要順著直覺打球就好了』，
我知道PP是想顧慮到球場上的每個隊友，而那也是我們希望他做的。但事實上我們的球隊有
三個直覺型的球員，包括KG、RONDO和PAUL (當然他們的籃球智商也很高) 然而有時候卻會
陷入『自己覺得應該以思考代替直覺』來打球的迷失，RONDO和PAUL屬之，而KG則間歇性的
會這樣。對於RONDO和PP，你必須經常提醒他們『順著直覺打球，你們有很好的籃球直覺』
；而對於其他人，你卻可以用數據向他們說明。總之，說到KG、RONDO、PP這三個人，不需
要多說什麼，就是儘管讓他們打球就對了！他們的直覺自然會引導他們。而我認為PAUL在
禮拜天的比賽就是用直覺打球，那樣就對了！」


Pierce is averaging 18 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this
season. He scored at least 20 points in four of the first five games of the
season, and remained the team's MVP through much of the early stretch. But
during the Celtics' recent 11-game win streak, it was more of a balanced
effort, with Garnett, Rondo and center Kendrick Perkins shouldering the
offensive load as Pierce and Ray Allen have been streaky.

Garnett offered Pierce some "stern" advice during Sunday's game -- noting it
