Trainer has plan to trim 'Toine

CHICAGO - While Antoine Walker's body has been an off-limits topic
around the Celtics since Rick Pitino left town, the co-captain's
trainer is ready to show him some tough love when he gets back in
earnest to his summer conditioning program.
Trainer Tim Grover, renowned for helping keep Michael Jordan in
prime shape well into his basketball golden years, has a clear
plan in mind when Walker checks in soon. And much of the blueprint
deals with nutritional issues.
``We're going to get back his explosiveness, decrease his body fat
percentage and take care of his lower extremities,'' said Grover,
who took in the night session at the NBA's pre-draft camp last
night. ``He needs to work on his legs to keep them strong for the
full season.''
Spending the last two seasons traveling with Jordan and the Wizards,
Grover has been able to see Walker often and it's clear to him what
is needed.
``He's got to make a commitment to change his (nutritional) habits
away from the court,'' Grover said. ``He can work as hard as he wants
inside the gym, but it's what he does when he's outside the gym that
determines how that will carry over to your game. Put it this way,
you're only in the gym for two hours a day. What you do those other
22 hours makes the bigger difference. If it was the other way around
and we had him for 22 hours, he could pretty much do whatever he
wanted for those two hours.''

如果我跟你說這一季的Walker狀況很好,那我一定是在騙你。Walker
的數據在下降,這跟打法沒關係,他每場要到的犯規、罰球命中率、
內外線整體命中率、籃板數都較上一季下滑,且有季初與季末的低潮
期;球隊打法沒改變,還出現這些狀況,對於一個老手而言是很不應
該的。這個暑假,他需要重新回去與訓練師Tim Grover一起努力工作,
就像是上一季的季前一樣。
Grover,喬丹大帝魔鬼身材的調練者,很清楚Walker的問題在哪裡。
就身體上需要加強的部分,他說:

需要加強爆發性,減少體脂率,加強下盤,鍛鍊腿部以使撐過一個球
季。倒過來說,這個球季他缺乏爆發力、過胖、下盤不夠穩、季末腿
軟。季後賽第一輪還能夠靠著大腦打球,到第二輪碰上Martin,就被
overwhelmed了。
這是身體改造的部分。另外還有生活作息與習慣部分:

It says a lot.你不能指望自己只要來體育館認真工作兩個小時,就
可以回去繼續過頹廢的生活。不只是運動員,作什麼事情都一樣,生
活與工作是環環相扣的,一邊顧不好,另外一邊也走不長。調整自己
的生活習慣,regularity,這很重要。
