O'Bryant, Giddens and Cassell for Corey Brewer

that gets the Celtics Corey Brewer and 2 open roster spots (one for Mutombo)
in exchange for Patrick O'Bryant, J.R. Giddens and Sam Cassell.

Minnesota takes back slightly less salary from Boston than Brewer's,
and thus waives Sam Cassell, who returns to the Celtics as a coach.

The Wolves still have one player too many,
so they do a simultaneous trade with Charlotte;
sending Rashad McCants and Brian Cardinal to Charlotte
for Gerald Wallace, who Charlotte is apparently trying to dump the salary of.

Minnesota gets a true 3, and sends UNC grad McCants someplace that the
restricted free agent apparently wouldn't mind going to. Minnesota
gets Wallace's contract, but unloads Cardinals, making it a win win
for Minnesota and Charlotte.

Thoughts.

An alternative for the Celtics is to simply offer O'Bryant, who can be traded
to any of the
other 29 teams for cash or a pick (he's a minimum salary player)
around to see what kind of cash or pick they will be offered for him.

But I think that O'Bryant's upside is higher than Glen Davis', although it
might
take two years for O'Bryant to develop the lower body strength and smarts to
be effective on the block offensively and defensively.

Giddens is sort of superfluous with Tony Allen, Ray Allen and Bill Walker;
