Comeback Falls Short, But Allen Gives It His Best Shot

No Kevin Garnett. No Rajon Rondo. An off night from Paul Pierce (5-of-15, six
turnovers). An 18-point halftime deficit against one of the Eastern
Conference's top teams. And still, Ray Allen almost Shuttlesworth'ed the
Celtics to a win over the Orlando Magic, losing 86-79 only after Allen's last
big shot wouldn't fall.

Without their defensive anchor or their offensive motor, the Celtics were out
of sync for most of Sunday afternoon. They allowed 56.4% shooting in the
first half and had just 10 assists on 30 made baskets all night. They needed
defensive stops, but most of all, by the fourth quarter, it was clear that
the Celtics needed shoulders to climb on.

With the Celtics down by 13 going into the final quarter and Dwight Howard
returning to the game after sitting with foul trouble, Allen torched the
Magic for 17 of his 32 points in the fourth, many of them coming over the
outstretched arms of the Magic center.

"We just tried to ride him out," Paul Pierce said of his teammate. "He was
keeping us in the game, getting us back in the game, so we rode his
shoulders. He made a lot of great plays, got us in the game."

Without Allen, who added nine rebounds, Sunday might have been fast-tracked
to the 'Do Not Watch' box of gametapes. But despite falling to a game behind
Cleveland in the East, the loss was a reminder of the immense talent of the
third amigo who has often let the limelight drift past his locker.

"Ray Allen was a featured guy in this league, a number one guy for a long
time, and was very productive," Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Now he gets
a chance to do that, or at least on certain nights. I think everybody knows
that when you give him the opportunity he can still come through big."

Allen's come up big so many times, in fact, that it was almost shocking that
he missed a potential game-tying three with 40 seconds remaining. But the new
owner of the Celtics' all-time record for consecutive free-throws made (72)
and second most three-pointers made in NBA history (2,255) is not slowing
down. Should Allen miss the next big shot he attempts, there will be just as
many faces of shock and disbelief in the stands of TD Banknorth Garden.

可惜沒進比賽結束前40秒
大家都已為本來會追平魔術的三分球 (我那時後雙手都合十了T^T)

但是他仍然突破很多記錄
超賽隊史最多連續罰球進球(72)
NBA第二多三分球進球(2255)
而且紀錄持續進行著








Pierce was certainly impressed with Allen's performance.

PP理所當然對雷槍的表現印象深刻











"It just shows that he's not getting any older, it just seems like he's
getting younger," Pierce said. "Ray keeps himself in tremendous shape in the
offseason and that's why he's playing so well now."
