100th anniversary of our first game

     One hundred years ago today, September 2nd, Chelsea played our first
ever game. We lost 1-0 to Stockport. It was in the old Division Two. A then
record 7,000 crowd turned up at Stockport’s ground. The goal came early in
the second-half when 22 stone goalkeeper Willie Foulke saved a penalty but
Stockport scored from the rebound.


     Legend has it that when captain Foulke was walking to the ground from
the train station, a young Stockport supporter taunted: “You’ll get
licked today!” Foulke replied: “Then it’ll be the first time this
season, m’lad.”


     Chelsea didn’t play well and were lucky to leave with just a one goal
deficit.

Foulke, Mackie, McEwan, Key, McRoberts, Miller, Moran, Robertson, Copeland,

Windridge, Kirwan.

    9月2日是切爾西歷史上的一個重要日子，100年前的這一天，他們踢了俱樂部創
立後的第一場比賽，0比1輸給了斯托克港隊。那是一場乙級聯賽的比賽，7000名觀眾
到場觀戰，在那場比賽中，切爾西的門將法爾克撲出了對方的點球，但被對手補射破
門。


　　當時切爾西的門將法爾克是個傳奇人物，身位隊長的他綽號是“胖子”，有關他
的傳奇經歷頗為有趣，據稱有一次他在撲救中倒地撞斷了球門的門柱 (當時的門框為
木制)，導致比賽被迫取消。到目前，法爾克仍保持著英格蘭聯賽中球員體重的紀錄，
至今無人超越。
