All change to new training ground

At last the dream of a new training ground is realised today, Wednesday,
and the first team returns from a two day break to report and work at
Cobham rather than Harlington.
It is the first permanent change in 24 years, and although most of the
facilities at Cobham are temporary, planning permission has been obtained
to build a permanent Academy and training centre.
Ironically, the first day is a Wednesday when over at Harlington the
students of Imperial College will be turning up in the afternoon for their
regular sports activities.
All the utilities have been moved over the last two days: training gear,
kit, medical facilities, massage facilities, computers, kitchen gear,
portacabins, the gymnasium, and so on.
For over a decade managers have said that more important than signing a
new world class player was finding a new training ground with world class
facilities. Over the last six months Harlington was wonderfully upgraded,
but it remained someone else’s. Cobham belongs to Chelsea.
A large part of the administration of the football club is moving there
from Stamford Bridge along with Football In The Community and other
activities. A new era is dawning. Once more Chelsea is striving to be
the best.
