CHAIRMAN'S END OF YEAR MESSAGE

Chelsea Football Club chairman Bruce Buck reflects on 2006. The following
words were first published in Boxing Day's matchday programme.

I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday season.

You know, of course, that for our players and coaching staff the
Christmas/New Year period is not a time off with families, but rather it
is work, work. For the rest of us, however, there is a bit of time for
reflection on the year about to end.

2006 has been very good to Chelsea Football Club. We won the Premiership
trophy for the second year running and enjoyed the latter part of our
2005/06 Centenary season.

Speaking of the Centenary, our skipper John Terry was named Player of the
Year at the event in April and was made England captain following the
World Cup Finals.

We had a total of 16 players in Germany from 10 different countries.
Chelsea contributed the most British-based players and had a greater

But it has not been all good news over the past 12 months. In January,

Then came the shocking news that the King of Stamford Bridge, Peter Osgood,
had died. Ossie was not just one of our greatest players, but was also one
of our most popular 'legends'.

In September, probably one of Chelsea's most loyal fans lost his battle
with cancer. Ron Hockings had attended 2,700 games.

And then on Tuesday 17th October, Victoria Buchanan, CPO's head of
operations, was involved in a fatal accident cycling to work.

But thanks to Tony Banks' legacy, the club set up the Past Players' Trust.
Tony always held the 1954/55 championship-winning players as his first
heroes and started to organise a trust to help look after former players
in need of support. And now the club has continued his work and realised
his dreams.

This Christmas the players visited two London hospitals - University
College Hospital and the Chelsea and Westminster. These are all good
