Chelsea`s victory at iddlesuperbarsarough on Saturday was surprisingly easy,
considering that Chelsea have come unstuck at the Riverside for the last two
seasons. 2 years ago, a 3-0 defeat was comically awful. It was, in fact,
Chelsea`s worst result under Jose Mourinho. Last season, Chelsea were cruising
ahead 1-0, only to concede 2 goals in the final 10 minutes. From that point of
view alone, a comfortable away victory is positive.

You could make an argument about this season`s 'Boro model not being the same
as that of previous years, it shouldn`t change the positive trend for Chelsea.
Avram Grant has been in charge for 6 games. 5 of these were away from home
(due to a fixture quirk), Chelsea have now won 4 of them. We lost at Old
Trafford (surely there is no shame in this, particularly since this was only
days after Jose left) and then drew at home against Fulham. Since then, Chelsea
have picked up. That includes the excellent result at Mestalla.

Chelsea still lie only 7th in the table. The consolation is that Chelsea have
played a few more difficult fixtures than our rivals. We have to hope that
Chelsea`s rivals take points off each other for our benefit.

One month after Jose`s unexpected departure, we are entitled to ask whether
this has been a positive development, and whether the new management deserves
our support, as Chelsea fans.

The truth is that Chelsea were floundering during the beginning of the season
when Jose Mourinho was still in charge. Chelsea had lost at Villa Park and
drawn at Anfield (even then, only just). At home, we had suffered a very poor
0-0 at Blackburn and 1-1 to Rosenborg, nominally Chelsea`s easiest Champions
League fixture. It was Chelsea`s worst start to the season since when Ruud
Gullit, another crowd favourite, was sacked.

There is little to indicate that, after such a mediocre start to the season,
Jose would have been able to turn things around. If anything, the results were
getting worse. Certainly the underlying reasons for Jose having lost his magic
were, if anything, deteriorating.

Since Avram Grant`s appointment, results have been better. We are not yet
seeing the promised performances and entertainment which were one of the

As fans, we were justified in questioning whether Avram Grant`s appointment
was appropriate, particularly since his qualifications seemed so poor. It is,
however, a simple truth in football that the supporters will forgive a manager
anything if he can deliver the results. Avram Grant seems to be doing just
that.

As fans, we can feel upset about Jose Mourinho`s departure. Nobody will hide
that this was a PR disaster that generated a tidal wave of ill will and bad
press. The manner of the departure, however, maybe obscured the fact that the
club could well have been right about the decision itself to get rid of our
most charismatic manager.

Chelsea`s ambition. One month on, the results that Grant has delivered
demonstrate that there is life after Jose.

Does this mean that fans should take Avram Grant to their hearts? That`s for
each supporter to decide. This hack would, however, suggest that our feelings
about Avram Grant, as the new manager, should not be decided by our dismay at
the way the club treated Jose Mourinho, and that the way that decision was
executed should be distinguished from the decision itself. Just as the club is
indebted to Jose, Jose did very well out of the club, after all, particular in
his departure. Let us not fall into the trap of believing that anybody, even
Jose Mourinho, is bigger than our club.

這就意味著球迷們要真心喜歡格蘭特？這是每個球迷自己的選擇。但是我的這篇文章，希

Off the pitch, there are still worrying signs that the storms that Jose`s
departure unleashed have not yet subsided. Will Frank Lampard stay at the
club, is the relationship between Didier Drogba and Chelsea FC really
irreparably broken? Can we hold on to the likes of Ricardo Carvalho and Wayne
Bridge, said to be subject to interest from other clubs? How many new members
of the coaching staff will be coming in (and will this not simply
over-complicate Chelsea`s management)? Is Avram Grant really a long-term
appointment, or is he an interim solution? One month after Chelsea`s most
successful manager left Stamford Bridge, his shadow still looms long over
Chelsea FC.

On the pitch, however, things are looking up. Avram Grant is succeeding in a
way that Jose, frankly, wasn`t. No doubt the majority of fans, most of whom
were shocked at Jose`s departure, will be surprised to note this. Pleasantly
surprised.

在場上，一切正在好轉。格蘭特走了何塞，說實話，不會走的道路。無疑大部分球迷──

One month on, Avram Grant has steadied the ship that Jose was taking
dangerously close to the rocks. In what must be a record for Chelsea, he has
managed to do that with only one convocation to the F.A., for incidents at Old
Trafford. The man might not be as electrifyingly charismatic as his
predecessor, at least he hasn`t got Chelsea into trouble.

For all these reasons, maybe Chelsea fans should offer Avram Grant their
cautious support. We support Chelsea, after all, and Grant is the Chelsea
manager. We should do so critically; should Grant fail we are entitled to make
our displeasure known. For the moment, however, the man deserves the benefit
of our doubt, and therefore our support as the man who is, right now, entrusted
with salvaging the rest of Chelsea`s season.

因為以上幾個原因，或許切爾西的球迷們能考慮適當地支持一下格蘭特。畢竟，我們支持
切爾西，而格蘭特是切爾西的教練。我們應該這樣辦事，如果格蘭特失敗了，我們才有理
由表達我們對他的不滿。而現在我們應該給與他支持，支持這個，現階段來說，切爾西餘
下比賽的救火隊長。
