Mateja Kezman will be landing this morning in Madrid. He'll be going straight to the Vicente Calderon stadium, where he'll be putting his name to a contract with Atletico Madrid. This was after a meeting on June 19th between Chelsea and Atletico, which took place at Marseille, at which the two clubs reached a verbal agreement on the conditions of Kezman's sale. Apparently, since then, the two sides have been working to transform the verbal agreement into a contract. We should understand that if Kezman will be disembarking from his plane with a pen in his pocket, ready to ink the contract, that all remaining issues have been ironed out. Kezman will become the first Atletico signing this summer. We can expect a formal announcement later today. Meanwhile, the press had many questions for the Atletico hierarchy after the revelations that Chelsea had asked about Atletico striker Fernando Torres. Club President Enrique Cerezo was bullish: "Torres? There isn't anything. We could also be interested in Chelsea players. I can't speak about the meeting in question, but the answer was the same as always. Fernando is an Atletico player, and will continue to be one for many years." "Abramovich should forget about Torres", he ended, providing a perfect headline for a number of papers this morning.
