Arnesen makes Tottenham admission
Frank Arnesen has revealed that difficulties over trying to attract big-name
players to Tottenham was one reason why he decided to join Chelsea.
Spurs' sporting director will begin his job at Stamford Bridge on 1 September
after compensation was agreed.
"I have been at a club where we were always at the back of the queue," he told
the News of the World newspaper.
"Chelsea and Arsenal were always at the front of the queue signing the big
players. I didn't like that."
And the 48-year-old Dane added: "I always wanted to be the one signing the big
players and I know that joining Chelsea will now give me that chance."
His delayed starting date is part of the package the Premiership champions
agreed with their London rivals after an escalating row developed following
allegations that Chelsea made an illegal approach for Arnesen.
Reports also suggest that the Blues paid between ￡5m and ￡8m as part of a
compensation package.
"In recent years Spurs have spent the same money as Arsenal on players but just
look at the difference. Players see that - and players know that," said Arnesen.
"And so the top players will always want to sign for Arsenal or for Chelsea
instead."
