JEWELL ON WIGAN & MOURINHO (選錄)
Dubbed the 'Chelsea of the Championship', Wigan Athletic were rewarded for
their Promotion to the Barclays Premiership with a dream opening fixture
against Chelsea.
Paul Jewell updates Sue McCann as he plans for Wigan's first season in the
Premiership and reveals why, despite controversy surrounding Jose Mourinho
again this week, he believes Mourinho is the "Special One".
"I really think he is fantastic. I was in London last week and I was fortunate
enough that he could spare me half an hour. I like self assured people, he's
not stereotypical, he's not like me and he's not a cliche man.....he's a bit
different. I had spoken to him a few times during the summer about players
and he was wonderfu,absolutley wonderfu. He's down to earth and I felt there's
no 'I'm up here and you are down there'. He made me feel very comfortable,
went out of his way to see me and we had long chat. I thought what a top,top
man. Obviously I hope he's not smiling after the first game of the season...
but full marks to him."
"He has a big respect for people. He said to me 'we are colleagues, you and I
have the same job.' And he told me that although Roman Abramovitch has got
bundles of money he doesn't like to see him get screwed (on deals).....they
were his exact words. His honesty came across and his knowledge of the game
. I'll tell you what,he really has an awful lot of respect for his players."
