Youth team wins first game

Chelsea’s youth team beat Luton 3-0 in the first pre-season friendly today
giving new coach Ruud Kaiser victory in his first Chelsea match.
In severe heat, three 17 year olds scored. Centre-forward Shaun Cummings made
up for missing a one-on-one with the keeper by putting away Scott Sinclair’s
cross after a fine Miroslav Stoch pass. Sinclair and Cummings are pictured. 16
year old Stoch was signed in the summer from Slovakia.
Triallist Ben Sahar substituted Cummings at half-time and scored the second.
Finnish winger Tomi Saarelma poached the third to climax a good passing
movement.
Kaiser said: “We were very good without the ball, but we have to be better in
possession and we will work on that.”
Two 16 year old first year scholars played all game: right-back Nano Ofori and
central midfielder Tommy Taiwo. Creative midfielder Ricardo Fernandes, 17,
found space and constantly used the ball well.
Captain Jack Cork and winger Fabio Ferreira were missing injured, and Michael
Woods and Sergio Tejera were away training with the first team.
The starting line-up was: Russell; Ofori, Worley, Hutchinson (c), Bertrand;
Taiwo, Bridcutt; Fernandes; Stoch, Cummings, Sinclair.
At half-time 16 year old goalkeeper Rhys Taylor came on and made one notable
save, Football Icon winner Sam Hurrell came on at left-back, Saarelma replaced
Sinclair, and Sahar replaced Cummings. Further triallists came on towards the
end.
