FOOTBALL ICON 2 - DOWN TO THE LAST FOUR

We're down to the semi-final stage of the competition following the
elimination of two more boys - midfielder David Palmer and striker Moses
Ademola.
The decision about who to release followed a number of demanding training
sessions in front of the Football Icon judges headed by Neil Bath, who's
also the manager of the Chelsea Academy.
Elsewhere in the programme, the boys were given their first taste of
dealing with the media when they faced the press. Little did they know
that their efforts were being judged by Lee Clayton, the Daily Mail's
sports editor!
The major surprise of the week was when former Chelsea and England
full-back Graeme Le Saux dropped in at the Mansion for a chat. He told the
boys about the importance of determination and of overcoming adversity.
The captain's privilege, for David Palmer and two of his mates - Tom Bird
and Carl Magnay - were tickets to the England v Andorra Euro 2008
qualifier at Old Trafford. Much to Carl's horror - he has a fear of flying
- the journey north included a helicopter ride to the game!
In the next programme, two of the boys suffer injury set-backs, which
threaten their chances of progressing in the competition.
And continuing their education away from the Chelsea training ground,
there will be advice on the commercial opportunities for top footballers.
The four boys now left competing for the prize of a Chelsea contract are:
Tom Bird, left-back.
Anthony Cook 'Cookie', attacking midfielder
Stuart Gates, centre-forward.
Carl Magnay, central defender.
The winner of the competition will be announced in early December.
Football Icon 2 is Sky One, 8pm Friday.
