With just three games remaining in the current campaign, Jose Mourinho has
already been talking about next season and how he sees the basic structure of
his squad.

Despite feeling the impact of injury so keenly over the past months, he rules
out the idea of a significant increase in personnel number as insurance
against a repeat.

A decision was taken a year ago to trim squad excess in order to foster a
competitive spirit and give the feeling that all have a part to play, and

'It is impossible to have a squad of 35 players,' he believes.

injuries, is not possible to be repeated.

'We had I think seven surgeries and 14 players with traumatic injuries. Not
muscular or tendon strains, everything we had was a broken bone, a knee
ligament, a skull fracture, everything was really bad stuff. And we cannot

'What we can have to give a little protection is a reserve team with kids with
potential and who are ready, like for example Scott Sinclair.

'It is not an easy game to come on and play for 15 minutes but I think Scott
is improving and we need three or four kids of 18-years-old, 19-years-old who

'It is something we cannot control and I think the numbers this season were
correct. We need one central defender more, no doubts about it, but I think
the numbers of players was correct give or take one more or one less.'

What can be planned for is the impact of the African Cup of Nations in early
2008 which could potentially remove Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Michael
Essien, John Mikel Obi and Geremi from the squad all at the same time.
能夠提前做好準備的是在2008年初非洲國家杯將帶來的衝擊：德羅巴、卡盧、埃辛、
米克爾和格雷米都有可能將同時缺陣。
Mourinho has been considering this.

'The competition is between 20th Jan and 10th February, so it is 20 days long.
By the rules, the players have to go eight to ten days before that. So it is
around one month.

'That's one month when there are some Carling Cup and FA Cup games to be
played, so I don't think it is a period with seven Premiership matches.

'I think it will be a period with three, maximum four league games. We have to
look at it like a moment when the players are injured and we cannot use them

'Drogba and Kalou are both attacking players, Mikel and Essien are both
midfield players, so we lose two players for each one of these spots and we
need to take care of it.

'It is something we know is going to happen and we have to try to be ready to
face the situation. Other clubs will have the same problems and it is not
