A good tactical and technical game, but a dull game for the neutral. That was
the conclusion on the FA Cup Final of most Chelsea people on Saturday evening.

The players and staff collected at 'Frankie's' in Knightsbridge, and for those
unpicking the 120 minutes' action of the afternoon, there was real
satisfaction.

Of course, there was full expectation that the media would blame Chelsea for

United's threat was counter-attack. It was never better shown than on Chelsea's

Bridge who pushed him just wide enough for Ferreira to get back and intercept.

Jose Mourinho's plan was for Chelsea to play and defend very deep so that
United couldn't get in behind the team, and always to hold people back when
going forward.

That sounds defensive. What it is, however, is a plan to counter the

with a locked door, there are question marks as to their ability to unpick it.

They are a counter-attacking team, which is quite different from an attacking
one. They play deep themselves, wait for the opposition to come out, and then

For Chelsea, Lampard still makes runs ahead of the ball. He didn't have a

So Mikel's perfect first touch to get the ball forward to Drogba was a perfect

Then the interplay between Drogba and Lampard was unlocking a defence - at

What a season Bridge has had. He's played in all of the Carling Cup Final and
FA Cup Final and won both.

joined Mark Hughes and Ryan Giggs on four FA Cup wins in the modern era. How
long before he overtakes them?

It won't be surprising if come the beginning of next season, many pundits say
that the Champions League has become Chelsea's and Mourinho's holy grail more

In a way, that may be true. But pundits should remember this weekend before
going overboard.
