With tonight's England team-sheet awaited with a little interest and a dearth
of Chelsea action to occupy the mind, our Wednesday columnist gets teeth into
the Lampard-Gerrard debate.

This kind of behaviour seemed to me equally implausible back in the days when

Nevertheless, even my remote and casual interest in affairs surrounding Team

Gerrard. Lampard, after all, is family, and when people start dissing him -
particularly in relation to the misfiring Liverpudlian liability and broadly
over-rated chancer - it's bound to get your back up slightly.

on which newspaper you read.

s England job application.

or nine players who appear to have been given little or no instruction about
how they might play together, so singling them out for special attention in
this area seems more than slightly unfair.
