CHELSEA YOUTH 1 WATFORD YOUTH 1
Mon, 19th Mar 2007
Chelsea kicked off with three schoolboys in the team and finished with
three Football Icon winners in Saturday's home draw with Watford.
The schoolboys, Jordan Tabor, Jordan Hibbert and Adam Phillip did well.
Manager Ruud Kaiser was pleased with the first 45 minutes.
'We were well organised in the first-half, tucking in altogether, making
the pitch smaller defensively, and when we got the ball were spaced out
and created four or five chances,' he said.
It was through doing this that the opening goal was scored five minutes
before half-time.
'Jordan Hibbert won the ball in midfield with good pressure, and he played
a great pass forward behind the defence for Morten Nielsen. He got tripped
from behind for the penalty.
'Nana (Ofori-Twumasi) was captain for the first time and he took the
responsibility and hammered it home.'
Ofori-Twumasi scored a penalty for England Under-17s earlier in the
season.
Unfortunately, the team didn't maintain its shape. 'The second-half was a
disappointment,' acknowledged Ruud. 'We didn't control the game, we didn't
tuck in.
'You saw two lines, the back four and the midfield players, and then a
gap and the three attackers. We couldn't keep the ball.'
All the same, Watford didn't create any chances because of the work of
Chelsea's back four.
'Jordan Tabor on his debut had a good game. Tom Bird played in the centre
for the first time for us and he did well as did Carl Magnay and Nana.'
But 20 minutes from the end, in his one moment of concentration loss, Bird
allowed a striker inside him and was judged by the referee to have clipped
him from behind. The second penalty of the game was given, and like the
first it was scored.
Ruud brought some experience off the bench to try and re-assert
superiority, but the substitutes failed to improve things, and the game
petered out to a draw.
