And this, remember, was the new look Chelsea Youth with the senior players now on loan or in the reserves, and rarely used at this level. 'It was an open game, a good game, with both teams playing good football,' Ruud said. 'Arsenal controlled the first 10 minutes, then we came in and dominated and played one of the best games of the last few weeks, of the season really.' The opening goal came just after the quarter-hour. 'It was a terrific goal,' enthused Ruud. 'There was good pressing from Nana (Ofori-Twumasi) and he won the ball in midfield, sent it wide to Sam Hurrell (pictured), and he span and made a great cross, and we scored from a header by Morten Nielsen. 'This was great work, getting the ball out wide like we had done in training.' Arsenal, however, are not undefeated this season for nothing. 'But one minute later they equalised: a pass from midfield behind our defence, we stepped up for offside, the linesman didn't give it, and they ran through and scored.' Still Chelsea played good football. 'There was an excellent shot from Morten Nielsen, high into the side-netting, and other good chances. But Arsenal had chances too, and at half-time, 1-1, I told the boys go on like that, Arsenal haven't lost one game all season, we can beat them. 'The second-half we played so well again.' Almost 20 minutes in, we retook the lead. 'Lee Sawyer hit a great diagonal ball to Miroslav Stoch, Miro showed good control and put a good cross in, the goalkeeper dropped the ball and Sam Hurrell came in and scored.' It was a first Chelsea goal for the first Football Icon winner Hurrell. The team was playing confidently, but Nielsen had to come off with a foot injury. Sergio Tejera, normally a Number 10, replaced him and did well in keeping possession. 'We had a great chance to go 3-1,' said Ruud. 'Miro was one on one with the goalkeeper and he made a great save, but he got the rebound and hit a great shot against the bar. It would have been a winning goal.' Stoch was due to be substituted in order to play in tonight's reserve game, but got injured and had to be replaced anyway by Ricardo Fernandes. 'Riccy was on the pitch one minute when he controlled a great diagonal and shot for the top corner, but the goalkeeper made another great save.' With just under 20 minutes left Arsenal suffered a sending off for a second yellow card foul. But that didn't make them lie down. 'Arsenal are a really good team, there was always danger from their strikers, even when you think you are in control. 'With three minutes to go one of them made a 50, 60 yards run up their left hand side, came inside, passed, we put them under no pressure, and he looked up and hit the ball where he wanted it in the top corner. 'The boys didn't deserve that. But Arsenal deserve credit too. 'Both teams did really, really well. Rhys Taylor was right back on form in goal. Shaun Cummings controlled and defended well at right-back. 'Morten Nielsen hadn't held the ball up at West Ham, and we worked on that all week in training, and he was battling for it, holding it up, allowing the midfield to join him. 'Lee Sawyer after 12 minutes came into the game and did really well. I was really proud for Tom Taiwo who got through his first 90 minutes of the season following his injury. 'Sam Hurrell started the season at left-back, but he's good attacking and been doing better on the left-wing. He made one goal and scored one, he played really well. 'But the whole team deserves a big plus. No player failed or played badly.'
