Chelsea centre-back William Gallas, sidelined with a mystery ankle injury,
today demanded his team-mates cut out the ``stupid errors'' in his absence.
Little is known about the extent of Gallas' problem, because the Blues will
only confirm he is definitely out of tomorrow's clash at Middlesbrough and his
agent Willie McKay has refused to comment.
The French international sustained the problem in a crunching tackle in
Wednesday's 2-0 Champions League defeat against Besiktas at Stamford Bridge.
The 26-year-old was forced to play on because boss Claudio Ranieri had used all
three substitutes.
He will play no part at The Riverside but insists his fellow defenders need to
improve.
``We made stupid errors, and that will be our lesson,'' he said bluntly.
``We did not play as necessary against Besiktas, and I have regrets because
they were a team within our reach.
``Does it put us back? The problem when you lose is that you are all back in
question - but we are a very good team.
``We lost. It would happen some day, although it is true we would have
preferred to lose in the championship rather than the Champions League.''
As for his injury, Gallas added on his personal website: ``The problem is I
don't know what it is.
``I have a sprain, although it might be more serious.
``I have had the results of examinations but they are not sure.
``I know nothing and I prefer to leave myself some days, at least until the
weekend, to see exactly what the injury is.''
To add to Ranieri's worries, Gallas' centre-back partner Marcel Desailly is
only 50-50 to face Boro after he also sustained an injury against the Turks.
If the Blues captain is ruled out Ranieri is likely to field the inexperienced
Robert Huth, 19, alongside John Terry in the heart of his defence.
Full-back Celestine Babayaro is also sidelined after hurting his groin in the
Champions League clash - but midfielder Emmanuel Petit could return after his
knee problem.
Striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is also demanding Chelsea make sure they put
the Besiktas debacle behind them.
``We will see who stands up and does the business,'' the Dutchman told Chelsea
TV. ``We will see if the team bounce back.
``Middlesbrough will be a hard game, so we have to be really aggressive and try
to get the three points.
``They have a lot of good players and will be trying to improve because they
had a bad start.
``But we must look at ourselves and do the right thing and go for the three
points.''
Hasselbaink believes Chelsea are up where they belong among the Premiership
pace-setters.
``If you don't compete you are really doing something wrong,'' he added.
``We have lost the fewest points. But there is a long, long way to go - and it
is a marathon, not a sprint.''

"How long have you been a Red Man?"
"About fifteen years."
"What were you before?"
"Blue."
