Robbie Savage is a major doubt for Birmingham's Barclaycard Premiership clash
with Chelsea.
The Welsh midfielder has failed to shrug off the Achilles problem which ruled
him out of the defeat at Old Trafford 10 days ago and his country's Euro 2004
qualifier with Serbia and Montenegro.
Steve Bruce is also without striker Mikael Forssell, who cannot play under the
terms of the pre-season loan agreement entered into with the Stamford Bridge
side. Nico Vaesen and Martin Grainger remain on the long-term injury list.
Chelsea's French defenders Marcel Desailly and William Gallas are both in
contention after missing out for their country through injuries at the weekend.
Gallas is recovering from a shin injury while Desailly has a back problem, but
France manager Jacques Santini's decision not to risk them in Saturday's Euro
2004 qualifier may give Chelsea chief Claudio Ranieri the option to play both
tomorrow and rest John Terry after his England exertions in Turkey.
Romania striker Adrian Mutu is likely to replace Eidur Gudjohnsen up front
where Hernan Crespo may also get the vote over Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Juan
Sebastian Veron and Geremi could return in midfield but Emmanuel Petit (knee)
and Celestine Babayaro (hamstring) are still out.
