Claudio Ranieri and Frank Lampard were today named Barclaycard Manager and
Player of the Month, and Claudio Ranieri also won the first ever Tissot
Managers’ Performance League award.
The Manager of the Month award was Chelsea’s first since Bobby Campbell won it
over ten years ago. The Tissot Managers’ Performance is for the first quarter
of the season and covers all League teams, and is judged by results alone.
Claudio beat Sir Alex Ferguson into second place.
The award was presented on behalf of the League Managers’ Association and
Tissot by Lawrie McMenemy. John Barnwell and John Duncan were in attendance.
McMenemy said: “Money doesn’t necessarily make for success, but good
management does. Claudio has managed his wealth of resources brilliantly to so
quickly deliver lots of goals, consistency of results and clean sheets. It’s
an all round quality performance in League and Cup that has got Claudio this
award – and he deserves a lot of praise for winning it.”
Frank Lampard is the first Chelsea player to win the Player of the Month award
since Gianfranco Zola in the same month last season. He scored against
Tottenham and Wolves and created several goals with good passing in the forward
third, a quality he said he felt he had added to his game this season.
