Joe hopes for start and high scoring game

Joe Cole is hoping to start today’s game against Manchester City and
forecasts goals.
“They like to play football and so do we,” he said on Chelsea TV last night.
You look at it and you’d put your mortgage on it that there’ll be goals but
you just don’t know.”
While the focus will be on players like Steve McManaman, Nicolas Anelka and
Robbie Fowler, Joe will be interested in one of City’s quieter summer signings
, his former West Ham colleague Trevor Sinclair.
“Trevor is a good player. He did brilliantly at the World Cup last year. He
had a difficult season last year, where he lost his form, but apart from that
at West Ham he was spot on.
“He’s a great player, he’s an athlete, he gets up and down and he’s got a
good football brain on him. He’ll be a big threat to us. There might be a
chance that I’ll be playing directly against him and that’ll be quite
interesting.
Joe believes it will be important to start well or pay the price.
“They’re a big club and they are a good side. We know they’re going to play
football. I think the first goal against Man City is very important, it’s
going to be very important for us. I think that sometimes, if they get a head
of steam, they can beat anyone on their day. So it’s important we put them
right under pressure from the off.”
Joe’s one Premiership start this season was at Birmingham where he came off
with cramp after 65 minutes. There’s only been a couple of games when he
hasn’t been brought on, but the fitness required for playing 90 minutes is
something he’s had to work on specifically. However, he expects more cramp.
“I’ve been doing a few things. I’ve been doing extra work. Whenever I’ve
come back in, because I play at such high intensity, it’s always sprinting
and moving. I’m always on the move. So when I first come back, I’ll get it
the first couple of games and then it’ll go away. It’s just because of the
high intensity of my game.”
