Damien Duff scored a magnificent individualist goal for Ireland last night
while Eidur Gudjohnsen continued training with Chelsea rather than go with
Iceland to the United States for their friendly.

Gudjohnsen, captain of Iceland, was allowed to stay at home to be available
for selection for Chelsea at Southampton which would have been difficult had he
played in San Francisco in California against Mexico tonight.

So there are only three Chelsea players in international action tonight:
Juan Sebastian Veron and Hernan Crespo for Argentina in their World Cup

Duff’s goal, the opener in the 3-0 win against Canada, started with him
collecting the ball midway in his own half and steaming through midfield as
the opposition retreated to the edge of their area where he tricked his way
past two challenges with barely a change in stride before striking an early,
low shot across the goalkeeper.

He, along with the non-internationals, will get today off, but the England
boys and Adrian Mutu who have had a light week so far will be training in
preparation for Southampton.
