Desailly Backs Crespo For Glory (Sky Sports)
Marcel Desailly has backed Argentine striker Hernan Crespo to fire Chelsea
to Premiership glory.
The ￡16.8 million hit-man has fired seven goals in 16 games for The Blues
since his move from Internazionale and ensured the West Londoners kept within
a point of Manchester United with the winner against Fulham on Saturday.
The former Parma star has been guilty on occasions, though, of failing to
find the back of the net when presented with chances, but veteran defender
Desailly backed the South American to start upping his success rate.
The Frenchman said: "All Hernan needs is a bit of confidence. It has not
been easy for him as he is an Argentinian just arrived from Italy.
"He is happy to be here but he has missed plenty of goals during the
season and also in training.
"When you lose the confidence, you miss many things. But now with the goal
against Fulham, it will give him a bit more confidence and, hopefully, he will
score rather than put it wide.
"Hernan is a great player and there is nothing more I can say about how
much quality he has. It was a great header (against Fulham) and he showed the
desire to put it in the net."
The French World Cup winner also confessed Claudio Ranieri's men were
pleased to put their mini blip behind them after suffering consecutive defeats
to Bolton and Aston Villa.
He added: "We are happy because we were disappointed after losing two
games. We were really motivated to beat Fulham.
"The manager was under pressure and he put us under pressure. We still
believe that we can do something good this season.
"When the attitude is like how it was against Fulham, things are good. We
have to continue in this spirit. If we lift our concentration that little bit
each game, we won't concede goals."
