Argentina 2 Chile 2
The first 2006 World Cup qualifying game. Argentina took a 2-0 lead, Chile
fought back to draw and the game finished with Argentina 10 men, Chile 9.
Juan Sebastian Veron was substituted in the 65th minute by Almeyda and Hernan
Crespo in the 72nd minute by Saviola, both when Argentina were 2-1 up.
Azerbaijan 1 Finland 2
On loan Mikael Forssell played all 90 minutes but didn’t score.
France 5 Cyprus 0
Marcel Desailly and Claude Makelele both played all 90 minutes of France’s
victory.
Holland 3 Austria 1
On loan Boudewijn Zenden was substituted at half-time with the score 1-1 for
the more attacking Overmars. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink stayed on the bench.
Iceland 0 Germany 0
Eidur Gudjohnsen captained all of this historic result which keeps Iceland
ahead of Germany at the top of their Group. Germany, however, have a game in
hand at home to Scotland!
Macedonia 1 England 2
John Terry played all 90 minutes and won the penalty for England’s winner.
He was the only defender not at fault for Macedonia’s opening goal of the
game. Frank Lampard played the first 45 minutes in central midfield but was
sacrificed at half-time when 1-0 down so Heskey could come on and make a 4-3-3
formation. There was no action for Wayne Bridge or Joe Cole
Republic of Ireland 1 Russia 1
Damien Duff, playing up front, scored a magnificent solo goal when he beat
three people on a run, although his shot took a massive deflection. Russia
equalised before half-time. Damien played the whole game, his first 90 minutes
of the season.
Romania 4 Luxembourg 0
Adrian Mutu scored the opening goal in the 34th minute and played all 90.
Jesper Gronkjaer’s Denmark don’t have a game until Wednesday.
