GUDJOHNSEN FRENCH RUMOURS REJECTED
Wednesday 21st January 2004
EXCLUSIVE
Eidur Gudjohnsen's father and agent, Arnor, has rejected reports that the
Chelsea striker could leave Stamford Bridge during this month's transfer
window.
The 25-year-old's future has been the subject of intense speculation since last
summer due to the striking competition at Chelsea.
The Icelandic international has, most recently, been linked with a shock move
to French outfit Bordeaux in both the French and English media.
Bordeaux are reported to have made enquiries for the former Bolton Wanderers
forward, but Gudjohnsen Senior insists there is nothing in it and that the
player is concentrating on helping Chelsea to success this season.
"There is nothing to it," Gudjohnsen told skysports.com, in response to the
Bordeaux link.
"I have heard about it and read something about it in the newspaper, but there
is nothing happening."
With Chelsea almost certain to bring in new strikers in preparation for next
season there is sure to be more speculation regarding Gudjohnsen's long-term
future in West London.
Gudjohnsen's father expects more transfer talk next summer and admits,
although Eidur is happy at Chelsea, the club may decide to sell him.
"You never know what can happen in football," added Gudjohnsen. "Chelsea are
still a new club and they may want to change things.
"Like in every situation in life, you never know what is going to happen, but,
if Eidur is playing and scoring goals, he is more than happy to stay at Chelsea
."
