Mixed injury news ahead of Blackburn

Damien Duff is likely of miss the trip to Blackburn while John Terry
and Robert Huth’s availability is pending. But there has been some brighter
news over long term injuries.
Claudio Ranieri this afternoon admitted that Damien Duff is unlikely to
have recovered from his minor ankle problem sufficiently to make what no
doubt would have been an emotional return to Ewood Park.
He said: “I think he is not ready yet. I think the next match against
Charlton will be his return.”
“Now I speak with the medical staff about John Terry and about Robert
Huth,” he continued, referring to the injuries his two defenders sustained
in a training collision earlier in the week.
“I don’t know at the moment if they will be available but the scan
said there is nothing broken and that is very, very important. Now it is
important to check tomorrow if they can run or not.”
Claudio did however reveal that there is a chance Juan Sebastian Veron
may not be out of action as long as has been reported.
“Veron has had a back operation and now maybe in the next week he will
return to us. I have read in the newspaper three months recovery but I think
if everything is positive, maybe we can cut it to one month.
“Crespo should start training next week with the first team,” he added.
Joe Cole begins a two-match suspension this weekend while Blackburn may
match Chelsea is giving a debut on Sunday having signed left-back Michael
Gray from Sunderland on Tuesday.
Rovers’ centre-back Martin Taylor looks to be leaving however, his
destination expected to be Birmingham later today.
Vratislav Gresko is also suspended for Sunday’s game while Steven Reid,
Lorenzo Amoruso, David Thompson and Barry Ferguson are long-term absentees.
