Geremi’s stay at the African Cup of Nations will extend until the
weekend at the earliest after the Cameroon side of which he is a key
member qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament.
A 0-0 draw against Egypt in Tunisia this afternoon was enough to see
the reigning African champions finish top of their group with Geremi
coming as close as anyone to breaking the deadlock when his free-kick in
the last minute was well saved.
His set-pieces and long throws were a threat on several other
occasions, one flicked on free-kick being fired over the bar by Patrick
Mboma from close range. The Chelsea man also picked up his first yellow
card of the tournament.
Cameroon, who finished on five points, one ahead of Algeria (who also
qualify) and Egypt, play their quarter-final on Sunday. Their opponents,
likely to be one out of Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa, will be decided
tomorrow.
