Blues keen to keep Forssell
Birmingham chairman David Gold says he is determined to make Mikael Forssell's
spell at St Andrews a permanent one.
But Gold admits he faces a difficult task to keep Forssell, who has been a big
hit with Blues since arriving from Chelsea in a season-long loan deal.
"We will do everything in our power to get him," Gold said.
"He is a Chelsea player and we've got to face the fact that it is very
difficult going into competition with Mr Abramovich with his billions."
Gold admits every goal Forssell scores will increase his value and increase the
risk of losing the Finnish international to another club - if Chelsea agree to
sell him.
Forssell is Blues' leading scorer with 12 goals, including 10 in the
Barclaycard Premiership.
Gold said: "Mikael is a quality player and every time he scores I just fear
that the price will go up for him if he becomes available.
"I am a man between the devil and the deep blue sea. I want him to be a huge
success this season because it will mean Birmingham City are a huge success.
"But looking long term I'd like him to be with us for the rest of his career,
eight to 10 years.
"So every time he gets another goal I think is someone going to come in and
snatch him away from us?
"What you've got to do is try and entice Mikael, make him want to be here with
the training facilities, a manager he respects and fans who love him.
"This is not just a question of money. This will be a question of what Roman
wants and what Mikael wants."
