The Italian has come under pressure in recent times as Chelsea struggle to keep up with Arsenal in the race for The Premiership title, despite their current second place in the table and progress through to the last eight of the UEFA Champions League. Sven Goran Eriksson, Carlo Ancelotti and, most recently, Ottmar Hitzfeld have all been rumoured to be in line to take over should chairman Roman Abramovich choose to dispense with the services of Ranieri at the end of the current season. However, the former Valencia coach is just getting on with his job and believes the signings of youngsters Arjen Robben and Peter Cech prove he is planning beyond just this season. Ranieri believes the capture of two players so young shows that he is not under pressure to deliver the title in the first season since Abramovich took over the club last summer. "There are a lot of rumours about me but I just continue in my way," he stated in an interview with Chelsea TV. "If I had to win the trophy I would buy only 28, 29-year-old players that are full of experience, but no, I prefer to continue with my idea. "Roman's ideas and Peter Kenyon's ideas are the same as mine to continue this way." He added: "I think this is right because we are building but also we are buying very, very good young players." He also commented over the latest stories that suggest Ottmar Hitzfeld was offered his job by Chelsea, a move that has been vehemently denied by the club. Ranieri said: "I think maybe the newspapers don't have anything to write about so maybe they have to close some space and so its 'first day this manager is going to Chelsea, second day this manager says no to Chelsea.' This is normal. "From the beginning there were these rumours. Imagine if I was to give importance to this rubbish. That would be crazy. "At the moment I continue to build and to think about my team, about my players and how to improve them, that is important." Ranieri also expressed his delight at the capture of Cech but believes the giant goalkeeper's arrival does not spell the end of Carlo Cudicini's time in West London. "Petr is one of the best young goalkeepers and after Carlo, we must, I must be sure Chelsea have somebody who can continue the Carlo era. "But Carlo must be calm, We have a lot of confidence in him. He added: "I think Petr is ready to play, but of course, Carlo is the first choice."
