Midfielder Emmanuel Petit has undergone further knee surgery on the
injury which has plagued him all season and restricted him to just four
starts and three substitute appearances.
After missing out on the opening of the campaign, he played a few
games in the early autumn but needed a knee operation which kept him out
for four months. He returned in the new year, and his last outing was an
excellent performance at Blackburn where his quick passing set up Frank
Lampard’s second goal.
But the knee swelled up again after the game, and rest and treatment
has not healed it.

PLUCKY PETIT WILL NOT RETIRE YET

Emmanuel Petit does not want to finish his playing career despite
undergoing knee surgery.
The Chelsea midfielder had an operation last Wednesday but is
confident he can return to full training in early July.
It is unlikely that the former Monaco, Arsenal and Barcelona man has
a future at Stamford Bridge as Roman Abramovich's personal fortune has
bank-rolled a spending spree that has had an instantly positive impact on
the West Londoners.
"For the moment, I put the contacts on stand-by," he explained.
"I am waiting to be back to my best level.
"What is for sure is I feel stronger than before in my state of mind.
"I want to retire on a satisfying note."
Clubs from France, England, Greece, Japan and United Arab Emirates
have all attempted to enquire about the services of the 33-year-old.
