Eriksson drops Parker hint


England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has pencilled Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker

into his Euro 2004 squad.


The decision will come as a blow to Parker's team-mate Joe Cole, whom Eriksson
did
not include in his list of likely Chelsea players in the squad.


"It may complicate things a bit if Chelsea make the Champions League final,"
Eriksson told Spanish paper AS.

"I am counting on John Terry, Frank Lampard, Wayne Bridge and probably Scott Pa
rker."



Parker, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Charlton for ￡10m in January, has ma
de
two substitute appearances for England.


Cole has struggled to establish himself in the Chelsea midfield since his ￡6m

transfer from West Ham in the summer.


Former Chelsea star Gavin Peacock believes Eriksson is right to earmark an
England place for Parker.


He told BBC Sport: "He's a top player. I tipped him a year ago to be a future
England regular.


"I think it is just the fact that we have got so many good midfield players
that he hasn't got in there sooner.


"He's excellent and he has shown the Chelsea fans that he's not there as a
squad player. He wants to get in there and be one of the regulars.


"He's got pace and tackling ability. If he can start adding goals regularly he
will be one for the future for England."
