Ranieri future uncertain
Claudio Ranieri's future as Chelsea manager remains uncertain, despite
the Italian having so-called showdown talks with chief executive Peter Kenyon.
The club said the talks were "a private matter" and insisted the meeting
was the latest in a series aimed at "clarifying the manager's position".
Ranieri's agent Phil Smith said he was not surprised the two parties had
failed to reach a resolution.
"It's being dealt with as quickly as it can. I don't think it's dragged on."
The manager's future has been uncertain since Russian billionaire Roman
Abramovich took control of the club in the summer.
Ranieri, who has a rolling contract until 2007, is keen to stay at
Chelsea and build on the success he has enjoyed this season.
The 52-year-old, who has also steered Chelsea to second in the
Premiership, will now continue preparations for Saturday's home match with
Everton and the Champions League semi-final against Monaco in Monte Carlo
on Tuesday.
Smith added both his client and Kenyon were now keen to focus on
progressing in the Champions League.
"Both parties want to make sure nothing gets in the way of having the
best possible preparations for arguably the biggest game in the club's
history," he said.
