Ranieri plays down chances


Claudio Ranieri believes Chelsea have the worst Champions League prospects
of all the semi-finalists.


The Blues will play Monaco away on Tuesday in the first leg of their
semi-final, having knocked out Arsenal.


Real Madrid, Manchester United and AC Milan are also out, but Ranieri
believes the other team in the last four are stronger than his men.


Porto beat Manchester United. Deportivo beat AC Milan. So why are we the
favourites?


"This is a great achievement for me and the club. It will be a great match
because Chelsea can score goals away from home. That's good for us."


Ranieri, who reportedly needs to win the Champions League to keep his job
at Stamford Bridge, believes Monaco are a dangerous proposition.


"They have a good team, good players, four wonderful strikers.


"On the left, there is (Jerome) Rothen, a fantastic winger, left foot,
wonderful. On the right, (Ludovic) Giuly, like (Gianfranco) Zola, a wizard.
A very, very good team who play champagne football."


Ranieri does have some selection problems after a flu bug spread through
his squad.


William Gallas and Damien Duff have both failed to travel because of the
bug but Hernan Crespo, Eidur Gudjohnson and Juan Sebastien Veron have all
recovered sufficiently to make themselves available.


John Terry is carrying an ankle injury and the team will not be selected
until later on Tuesday.


With Carlo Cudicini and Neil Sullivan both injured, Chelsea will have
third choice goalkeeper Marco Ambrosio in goal.


The Italian has enjoyed his time between the posts but will happily move
aside when the others regain their fitness.


"When Carlo is fit he will keep his place - that is normal," said Ambrosio.


"He is the first choice goalkeeper of Chelsea and when he comes back Chelsea
will have another big champion. Of course I will happy if I continue to play
but I will also be happy that Carlo is back."
