RANIERI: WE RAN OUT OF LUCK

    Claudio Ranieri complained about his side's lack of fortune after their

2-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park.


    Joe Cole gave Chelsea a fifth minute lead, but a Shola Ameobi strike and

a superb goal from Alan Shearer gave Newcastle the three points.


    Chelsea squandered numerous chances to salvage something from the match

and the game was up when John Terry volleyed against a post deep into injury

time.


    "It was a strange match. In the first half, we scored very early and we

had the chance to score again a minimum of three times with good counter-

attacks, but we lost the final pass," said Ranieri, who congratulated Arsenal

on winning the title.


    "At the end of the first half, Ameobi scored and then at the beginning of

the second half, it was a great goal by Shearer, and you can't do anything

about that goal.


    "Now there are in these next few days good things to do, but it's

important also to change the luck because without luck, you can't do

anything."
