Barcelona move seven points clear
Sunday, Feb 20, 2005
Two Deco goals gave Barcelona a 2-0 win last night, Saturday, in their
last match before facing Chelsea next Wednesday.
Real Mallorca were the visitors and they won a penalty with their first
attack when Barcelona captain Puyol fouled. But goalkeeper Valdes saved
well, and Deco scored his first from outside the area with the opposing
goalkeeper surprisingly immobile.
The goalkeeper was at fault again when Deco scored the second after the
interval.
Former Milan and Italy holding midfielder Albertini returned to the side
with Marquez, who has been playing in midfield, being restored in defence.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, surprisingly lost 2-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao,
and Barcelona stretched their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
Barcelona’s team was:
1 Valdes; 2 Belletti, 5 Puyol, 4 Marwuez, 12 van Bronckhorst (Silvinho 73);
20 Deco, 22 Albertini, 6 Xavi (Iniesta 62); 8 Giuly (Gerard 80), 9 Eto’o,
10 Ronaldinho.
