Chelsea boss unlikely to spend during transfer window

Jose Mourinho today insisted there would be no bid by Chelsea to buy England
midfielder Steven Gerrard from Liverpool when next month's transfer window
opens.


Gerrard, a ￡30m target for Chelsea last summer, has been linked again with
a move to the Premiership leaders after the player stated he wants to win
trophies sooner rather than later.

But while the Blues' boss Mourinho maintains there will be no such bid next
month, he did not rule out a renewed move for the midfielder next summer.

Mourinho said: "He is a player I admire very much. I think Liverpool are
lucky to have such a fantastic player."

When asked if he was a player he would like to bring to Stamford Bridge,
Mourinho said: "No. In the open market in January, if we only have small
injuries like that to Robert Huth, if we don't have big injuries, the market
can be open but it is closed for us.

"So I don't think about players. The summer is too far ahead to think about."
