Mourinho: Eight point gap will be significant

Forty-eight hours before Chelsea face Arsenal for the first time under his
management, Jose Mourinho is focussing on the consequences a win for his
side would have on the season remaining.


A victory, he believes, will have major ramifications in the coming months
whereas a lesser result will have more limited impact.


“At the end of the game Chelsea will be top of the League. I have told my
players this all week,” Mourinho said, clearly stating his attitude to the
contest. “This takes the salt and pepper out of the game a little bit.

'在比賽之後,切爾西仍然會是聯賽榜首.整個禮拜,我都這樣告訴我的球員們'
'這樣會使這場比賽稍微沒這麼緊張刺激.'

“It is not a question that this game can decide a change of positions, so
that beautiful song the supporters sing every game, at the end of this
match they can sing it again. Because we will be top of the League.

“The question is two points difference between Chelsea and Arsenal, five
points difference or eight points difference, and I tell you, eight points
difference is a lot. If we win it is significant.

然而我告訴你,八分差距則有相當深遠的意義."

“If we win it is not just eight points from Arsenal, it is nine points
from Man U and eight and nine is quite a lot. So I think more than a
reaction in our way of thinking, there will be a reaction in their way of
thinking if we win.

“After Sunday we have two matches at home, Norwich and Aston Villa, so
again it is significant if we win.”

The Chelsea manager was quick to dismiss any idea that defeat to Porto
midweek has affected his team’s mentality as they resume Barclays
Premiership action having won six and drawn one of the last seven League
outings.


“We lost in Porto, Barcelona lost in Donetsk, Juventus drew in Israel so
there were many strange results in the last games. I don’t think Juventus
has a negative influence for the next match, Barcelona has not and we have
not. Because it is a different competition.

“I don’t like matches where you don’t have to win. I like matches where
you feel the pressure, you feel the responsibility and you feel that if
you don’t win then it will be bad for your team. When you play games like
we did against Paris and against Porto you don’t feel that pressure. So
you can smell before the game that you are not at your top. Normally you
don’t get many results.”

Looking forward once more to the Arsenal game he added: “We want very
much to play this game. I think if you ask the Arsenal players, everybody
wants to play this game. I look forward to it and I think Arsene is the
same. Everybody prefers this match to a small match. The team is happy and
the team is ready.”

'我們非常想與阿森納對戰,你去問槍手們,我認為他們也會想踢這場比賽.我對這場比賽

Only young centre-back Robert Huth is ruled out of the trip to Highbury
through injury, the ankle problem he suffered on international duty yet to
heal.


Arsenal will be without the suspended Patrick Vieira while his fellow
midfielders Edu, Gilberto and Jermaine Pennant are injured. There is a
question mark over Freddie Ljungberg’s participation due to a migraine.


Of Vieira’s enforced absence Mourinho observed: “I have to say the truth
and the truth is he is an important player for them. He is their captain,
he is a man with big responsibility in the team so I think  they will miss
him the same way I would miss John Terry if John was not involved in a game.

'我必須說實話,事實上,維埃拉的確是他們非常重要的球員,他是隊長,他在隊中擔重任,

“But I have answers if one day John is not able to play and they have
answers if Patrick Vieira is not able to play. To be fair, the best period
of the season they had was at the beginning when they were beating
everybody and they were scoring four and five, four and five - and Vieira
was not there.

it is the reality. So they didn’t miss him in that period and the young

middle and he is top quality with a lot of experience. Every team has
important players but every team has an answer.”

Concluding on his own tactical approach to the game, Mourinho explained:
“It is always different from game to game. We have our philosophy and way
of playing so we cannot change much but of course we analyse our opponent
and we have to change little things in relation to the qualities of the
opponent. We go to Highbury by bus but we don’t put the bus on the pitch,
that’s for sure.”

'戰術會隨著比賽而有所不同.我們有我們的中心思想,踢球方式當然也不能做太多改變.
但當然我們會分析我們的對手,我們必須根據對手的特點做出一些改變.我們是要搭乘巴
