PLAYING THE PART: GET INVOLVED
Jez Walters - 14 December 2004
At the first Fans Forum in October, CFCnet asked the Club to make sure the
pre-match DJ stopped playing music four or five minutes before kick-off
at every home match. This was purely at the request of many readers of
CFCnet who emailed us before the Fans Forum asking for us to raise this
issue with the Club.
The response from the Club was fantastic. Simon Arthur, Group Operations
Director, immediately left the room and went up to the DJ's office and
instigated the change. The result was that the DJ stopped the music before
the match leaving us, the fans, plenty of time to get a few songs going to
generate a strong atmosphere.
At the next Fans Forum, the Club reported that they were happy with the
changes and that the atmosphere had improved as a result. Many fans were
also pleased because it allowed us to sing before the game and not get
drowned out by totally unsuitable music from Steps and Kylie. Remember,
we are at a football match.
One problem, however, is that many fans didn't know why there is a silence
before each game. To rectify this, the club put a message in the pre-match
programme asking people to sing up before the game kicked-off. This again
proved effective.
CFCnet is now asking all our readers to participate in the pre-match singing.
You asked us to get the pre-match DJ routine changed and this we have done
in liaison with the Club. Therefore, we all need to do our bit and sing before
the game during the pre-match silence.
Footnote: The Premier League theme tune that is played when the teams appear
from the tunnel is a contractual agreement for all Premier League Clubs. It
can't be changed.
