Chelsea maintain their attention to detail (節選)
December 20, 2004

“It’s freshened us up,” Frank Lampard, the midfield player, said of
the new site. “It felt like home straight away, the pitches are better.”
Oh dear. It seems that the potential distractions of Europe will be
counterbalanced after all. So what else can Arsenal and the rest of the
hopefuls count on to topple Chelsea?
Well, the old ones are the best and you can be sure we will hear about how
Manchester United and Arsenal have recent experience of winning the
Premiership and that experience is vital, especially during the latter
stages of the season.
“I don’t believe in that (the need for experience). I believe in a group
of hungry players,” Lampard said. “A lot of them are young and are
desperate to win something and that can carry you as far as experience can.”
And against Norwich City, Chelsea illustrated that they have that most vital
ability; to be able to squash opposition without breaking sweat.
“They (Norwich) started quite bright but it’s a testament to our team
that we’ve got the quality that when we are not playing at our best, we
can produce goals,” Lampard said. “To be 3-0 up at half-time, not playing
our best is a nice fact. We’ve got a solid base and so even when we are
not playing at our best we feel confident we’re not going to concede.”
It looked routine, but Mourinho prepared meticulously, as always. “We had
some sort of excitement about the Barcelona game because it’s an occasion
we all want to be involved in, but straight away we go into training and
we focus on Norwich and we study them as we study any other team,”
Lampard said.
